A modular building rides on a step deck, double drop or lowboy, chained at the frame. Wide units move under permits with escorts, and the truck arrives on the crane schedule at the site.
Modular freight is all about timing. A crane, a set crew and a general contractor are all waiting on the truck, so the delivery window matters as much as the drive.
We plan every unit from the factory to the pad: trailer choice, route, permits, escorts and the arrival window, with one person at IZ keeping the site in the loop.

Finished modular units, multi box sets and the prefab parts that go with them. IZ Freight plans each move and arranges it through vetted independent carriers, powered by Armstrong Transport.
Jobsite and permanent office units, single or multi box.
Portable classrooms timed around the school calendar.
Finished clinic modules that need a careful, clean ride.
Construction trailers moved in, between and off jobsites.
Converted container offices, shops and equipment rooms.
Matched boxes shipped in order for the crane to set.
Guard booths, kiosks and electrical enclosures.
Bathroom pods, wall panels and roof systems.
The right trailer comes down to the unit's height, length, weight and how it will be lifted at the site.

Wrapped modules on a stretch flatbed.
Any unit over 8 ft 6 in wide, or too tall or long for the legal limit, needs an oversize permit for every state on the route.
In California that means a Caltrans permit for state highways, plus city or county permits where the route leaves the state system. Wider units add pilot cars, and some routes call for a height pole or set travel hours. We coordinate the permits, escorts and route survey through our carrier network so the load is planned to reach the site legally and on schedule.
See the rules state by state in our oversize permits and escort requirements guide.

We lock in the set date, crane time and site access first, then plan the trip backward so the truck arrives in the window.
For multi box sets, boxes ship in set order so the crane never waits on the wrong unit. The site contact gets a call before arrival, the driver knows where to stage, and you get updates from the factory to the pad.
A simple map with the gate, the set pad and the crane position helps pick the trailer and avoid a costly reposition. Large sets often run alongside other project freight, like the gear on our data center freight page.

Most modular units ride on a lowboy, step deck, stretch flatbed or a modular carrier, chained at the frame. Wide or tall units move under oversize permits with pilot cars, timed to meet the crane at the site.
Yes, any unit wider than 8 ft 6 in or over legal height or length needs a permit. Caltrans covers state highways, and cities or counties may require their own permits for local roads.
It depends on the width, length and route. Many full size modular sections need at least one escort, and wider units need more. Our oversize guide lists the rules by state.
RGN and lowboy trailers suit tall or heavy units, stretch flatbeds suit long sections, step decks suit smaller booths and offices, and toter setups move units on their own running gear.
