We pull Caltrans and multi state permits, schedule escorts, and check every overpass and utility line on the route when the load is tall. Most permitted loads move in daylight only, with curfews around rush hour and holidays.

In general, freight wider than 8 ft 6 in, taller than about 14 ft overall, longer than legal trailer limits, or heavier than about 80,000 lb gross needs an oversize or overweight permit from Caltrans and every state on the route.
Oversized is about dimensions: too wide, tall or long. Heavy haul is about weight: too heavy for a legal truck. Many loads are both, and both need permits.
